The Parapet Society

What is the Parapet Society?

The Parapet Society is the brainchild of several members of the Class of 1973 in the glow of their 50th Reunion. The class universally had a wonderful time as 50th reunions should be.

One of the results of that joyous occasion was the realization that VMI had been stuck in a rut since the onset of the Pandemic, the pall created by the allegations of racial indiscretions, the subsequent investigation of allegations, the change of leadership, and the impact on recruiting.

What was happening was the core goodness of VMI — a hard place to be, but a great place to be from — was obscured at a time when there was a voracious appetite and need for good news. VMI is at its core a magnificent mechanism for transforming lives and sending its well crafted graduates into the world to serve their fellow man.

The Parapet Society endeavors to be the dispenser of the “good news” that supports its essential goodness at a time wherein the Nation and the Commonwealth has an unfulfilled need for exactly what VMI men and women can and will do.

We hope you will enjoy the journey with us.

The Resolution

As part of its 50th Reunion, some of the members of the leadership committee crafted a Resolution expressing the classes support for VMI and celebrating the long value of a VMI education.

The Unity Tree

The Class of 1973 planted a tree near the entrance of the Post Exchange. The Unity Tree, a mighty oak, stands for the propositon that we are all indelibly linked by our VMI experience and our love for this institution and its history.
